Attorney General Patrick Morrisey Thinks Covering Pre-existing Conditions Is Unconstitutional

Morrisey won’t stand up for WV patients and carries water for insurance companies

CHARLESTON, WV — Attorney General Patrick Morrisey joined a lawsuit asserting that requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions is unconstitutional.

Morrisey wants to go back to the bad old days when insurance companies could deny coverage to West Virginians based on pre-existing conditions. If Morrisey wins in court, insurance companies will be allowed to block coverage for many chronic illnesses.

Morrisey is using his position as Attorney General to do the dirty work for big insurance companies while throwing the people of the Mountain State under the bus.

“Pat Morrisey led the charge to let insurance companies off the hook for covering pre-existing conditions,” said Belinda Biafore, chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. “If Morrisey wins in court, it will be a victory for the insurance companies and a disaster for working families. Pat Morrisey won’t defend West Virginia from Big Pharma or insurance companies because he’s bought and paid for.”
