WV Republican Jobs Plan: Fire 15,000 state workers
It’s no secret that West Virginia Republicans have declared a full on attack on workers in this state. The GOP has pushed to eliminate the prevailing wage law, and now Republican leaders want to fire 15,000 state employees.
Kris Warner, a West Virginia National Republican Committeeman and Bill Cole cheerleader, recently appeared on the Mike Queen radio show and viciously attacked public employees. Warner called for cutting the state workforce by 15,000. That would be at least 15,000 people immediately out of a job, and force thousands of families into financial ruin.
Kris Warner: “We have 43,000 state employees, we should have somewhere in between 25,000 and 28,000 state employees.” [The Mike Queen Show, 11.13.2015]
West Virginia Republican leaders want to fire 15,000 state workers. That means fewer state troopers on the beat, correctional officers on the job, teachers in the classroom, and many more important positions eliminated that keep our state running.
Worse yet, Warner even slandered public employees by implying that many are engaging in illegal activity. He even said, “[State workers] are sitting in their offices in Charleston, selling Tupperware and buying Avon at their desk.”
That sums up exactly what Republicans think of our state workforce.
Kris Warner, Bill Cole, and their GOP allies have zero respect for West Virginia workers. Warner even outlined Cole’s agenda: repeal prevailing wage and implement right-to-work legislation. If this crowd has their way, there will be 15,000 people out of a job.
These comments tell us exactly the mindset of the WV GOP. Cole and the Republican party want to cut wages for construction workers and eliminate 15,000 state jobs if given the opportunity.

26min and 11 seconds — “We have 43,000 state employees, we should have somewhere in between 25,000 and 28,000 state employees. When you pad the state payroll with political workers that have been indicted and will be indicted for what they have done working on Democrat political campaigns.” [The Mike Queen Show, 11.13.2015] [clipped audio here]
