Democratic Women’s Caucus Announces Listening Tour
The Women in Leadership Country Roads Listening Tour will kick-off on Wednesday, December 18th in Charleston via Facebook Live
(Charleston, WV) — The Democratic Women’s Caucus will travel across the state to hear from West Virginians December 19th- 20th.
“Public service is about meeting people where they are, listening to their concerns and collaborating to make meaningful change in our communities throughout the state,” said Delegate Amanda Estep-Burton (D- Kanawha, 36). “Too often there isn’t the time, there isn’t the will to make that happen. I’m honored to join my colleagues on this important tour throughout the Mountain State and am eager to listen, learn and act with West Virginians to help ensure a better future for us all.”
The tour will focus on listening to West Virginians and meeting them in their communities.
“We are embarking on this listening tour to hear from the people what they want and need from us during the upcoming session,” said Delegate Cindy Lavender Bowe (D – Greenbrier, 42). “We consider ALL West Virginians our constituents and want to hear from as many folks as possible so that we can make informed decisions to benefit them.”
They hope that this tour will give West Virginians the chance to speak about their concerns for West Virginia ahead of the 2020 Legislative Session.
“The tour will help us prepare for the upcoming legislative session. We want to encourage women to make their voices heard and participate in the political process,” said Delegate Lisa Zukoff (D- Marshall, 04)
The theme of the tour is L.E.A.D meaning listen, empower, act and dream.
Delegate Danielle Walker (D- Monongalia, 51) says that women are leaders and this tour is about leading and encouraging others to do so as well. “Women L.E.A.D. and we will be doing so by traveling our Mountain State to engage with students, seniors, and community members by listening to their concerns.”
The Democratic Women’s Caucus plans to continue tours like this one in the future, making four trips around the state each year.
“I think listening is the first job of an elected official. It will be valuable to go around the state to hear what people in other areas of the state are thinking,” Delegate Barbara Fleischauer (D – Monongalia, 51).
