Democrats Call on Governor Justice To Apologize
House Minority Leader Tim Miley says Justice should show “humility and leadership” and apologize for his remarks
(Charleston, WV)– Democrats are calling for Governor Jim Justice to take responsibility and apologize for his racially charged remarks towards the girls’ basketball team at Woodrow Wilson High School.
“We need the governor to show true leadership,” said Minority Leader Delegate Tim Miley on the floor.”We have enough problems in our state.”
Democrats point to Justice taking accountability of his words and say that instead of deflecting blame he needs to try to understand why his use of the term is offensive and wrong.
Delegate Sean Hornbuckle pointed to Governor Justice’s response to incidents throughout the state where he did not call those individuals or groups ‘thugs’.
“We have to start thinking about what we’re saying,” said Delegate Hornbuckle. “I find it very odd that we use very selective language for certain folks.”
“We’re not talking, we’re not communicating, and we’re not listening.”
