Ethics Complaint Filed Against Morrisey and Justice

Concerned citizen questions if Morrisey and Justice used taxpayer resources for campaign purposes

CHARLESTON, WV— A West Virginia citizen has filed a complaint with The West Virginia Ethics Commission to investigate Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and Governor Jim Justice for using their office resources for political activity.

Based on the evidence presented in the complaint, both statewide officials appear to have used government resources to benefit Patrick Morrisey’s campaign for the U.S. Senate.

Read the ethics complaint from Mr. Van Jenkins of East Bank, WV here.

Complaint highlights:

  1. Jim Justice streamed a political speech for Pat Morrisey on a taxpayer-funded Facebook page during the political rally of President Trump.

  2. Pat Morrisey used the office of the Attorney General to promote a campaign event with Vice President Mike Pence. Morrisey issued a press advisory for the event on official Attorney General letterhead.

  3. After promoting the Pence event on official letterhead, Morrisey used pictures of the event for a fundraising appeal.

“It looks like Pat Morrisey and Jim Justice were caught red-handed breaking the rules,” said Belinda Biafore, chair of the West Virginia Democratic Party. “The taxpayers of West Virginia need to know if the Governor and Attorney were using taxpayer-funded resources to promote the Morrisey campaign.”
