Further Action Should Be Taken Against GOP Delegate Joe Jeffries
House Speaker Hanshaw should censure Delegate Jeffries or ask him to resign
(Charleston, WV) – Over a week ago, Governor Jim Justice said it was time for GOP Delegate Joe Jeffries to resign after several sexually explicit videos surfaced from his social media account on TikTok.
Despite the call from Governor Justice for him to resign and the strong remarks from GOP House Speaker Roger Hanshaw calling him an “embarrassment” to the entire state, Delegate Joe Jeffries still remains seated in the House of Delegates with no future action.
When Speaker Hanshaw released his statement, he then stripped Jeffries of his committee vice-chairmanship, but no further action has been taken to censure or remove him.
“GOP Delegate Joe Jeffries represents not only his district or the House of Delegates, but the whole state of West Virginia and simply slapping him on the wrist for the disturbing videos we’ve seen on his social media account is not enough,” said WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore. “The videos were the latest installment in a pattern of behavior for Delegate Jeffries and without action to censure or remove him this behavior will continue.”
During the 2021 Legislative Session, Delegate Joe Jeffries was seen wearing a mesh mask on the floor mocking COVID-19 and yelling graphic comments about Governor Jim Justice.
