Happy International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day

March 8, 2018

Fellow Democrat,

Today is International Women’s Day and what a better way to celebrate than to recognize the women who were on the frontlines here in West Virginia fighting for a pay raise and better health care for West Virginia teachers, school service personnel, and ALL state employees.

Women dominated the organized efforts to hold Republican lawmakers accountable here in Charleston and women internationally do the same every single day.
Here in West Virginia and sadly everywhere else too, women are not trusted to make our own decisions. Those decisions include health care decisions, workplace decisions, and decisions to come forward and say enough is enough.
The biggest power I know is the power of women and when we come together and stand up for one another I truly believe that anything is possible and that one day hopefully soon we can stop fighting for the same rights given to others.
I know it’s exhausting. The fight every. single. day.  for equal rights by law and socially is tough and ongoing, but now more than ever people are listening and action is being taken.
Women for too long have been repressed in every aspect of our lives and women are saying Times Up.
Times Up on violence against women, the unequal positions of power, and inequality in the workplace and everywhere else.
Today, on this International Women’s Day I truly believe that more people are listening. We owe it to women before us and women fighting alongside us today to keep it up and we will not stop until we have more women in office, positions of power, and more women feeling equal and respected in the workplace and society.
