Republican Majority Puts Corporations Over West Virginia Children
House and Senate Democrats unveil plan to put children first and ask GOP to do the same
(Charleston, WV)– House and Senate Democrats today released a plan to put West Virginia children first while Republicans are wanting to use millions of dollars prioritizing breaks and benefits for big corporations.
Senator Stephen Baldwin, Delegate Amanda Estep-Burton, and Delegate Lisa Zukoff held a press conference this morning stressing the importance of helping our children in West Virginia suffering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
“It’s time to put our money where our hearts are,” said Senator Stephen Baldwin.
Democrats call on Republicans to put money where it is important, helping our children, not corporations.
* Nearly 7,000 West Virginia children are in the care of the state and foster homes.
* 10,522 West Virginia students are homeless.
* West Virginia has the highest rate in the nation of babies born with dependencies on drugs.

“West Virginia children are the future of our state and they are in crisis,” said WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore. “Republicans have long put corporations ahead of West Virginians and that seems to be no different this session. Look at the distress our children are going through. How can you see it with your own eyes and ignore them? That seems to be the question we need to be asking the Republican Majority.”
The 2020 legislative session is nearly to the halfway point and the Republican Majority’s focus is elsewhere.
