WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore released the following statement on the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio:
“The West Virginia Democratic Party stands with the communities of El Paso and Dayton in grieving those who lost their lives as a result of yet another tragic shooting and demanding action. These tragedies occurred within 24 hours of each other and are a direct result of inaction by our President and our elected officials.
How many times does this have to happen before real change is made? How many lives will be taken before the lives of human beings are valued enough by those elected to take real action? They are the ones who can make this stop, but to do so, their loyalties need to belong to the people they were elected to serve.
Hatred in America is only exacerbated by our President and those who thrive off of chaos rather than creating real change.
Today we can speak out while those who lost their lives can’t. We must continue to fight for commonsense gun legislation and to hold our elected officials accountable.
These tragedies are gut-wrenching and heartbreaking. We must take action.”
