West Virginia Republicans Vote Against Addressing Baby Formula Shortage

Congressman Alex Mooney and Congresswoman Carol Miller last night voted against a bill to help alleviate baby formula shortages

(Charleston, WV) – West Virginia Democratic Party Chairwoman Belinda Biafore released the following statement after Congressman Alex Mooney and Congresswoman Carol Miller voted against the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act late last night, which would provide emergency funding to address the shortage of infant formula in the United States.

“As Democrats are moving quickly to pass legislation that would help families and address the shortage of baby formula, West Virginia Republicans are all talk and no action when it comes to making sure we have the resources necessary to deal with this shortage.

“This vote is yet another example of how West Virginia Republicans aren’t interested in actually taking action – they’re more interested in using West Virginia families’ struggles for their own political gain. While West Virginia Republicans are pointing fingers and voting against solutions, Democrats are laser-focused on providing the resources to help West Virginia address the infant formula shortage, and working to lower costs on everything from gas to groceries.”

This “no” vote is the latest in a long pattern of Republicans actively working against common sense solutions. Earlier this year, 193 House Republicans, including all of West Virginia’s Republican Congressional delegation, voted against capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month. Additionally, every congressional Republican voted against the American Rescue Plan, which has saved West Virginians money on everything from their health care premiums to rent or mortgage to child care costs, and more.
