WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore released the following statement on the conclusion of the 2019 Legislative Session
“The Republican Leadership missed the opportunity to address critical issues facing West Virginia. They did not follow through with the pay raise for teachers and school service personnel that they promised during their campaigns. Instead, despite efforts from Democrats, they’ve forced a special session that will cost West Virginia taxpayers. They still did not fix or fund PEIA. They did not prioritize fixing the roads despite the outcry from West Virginians who are risking their vehicles and their safety daily driving to and from work.
“Instead of prioritizing critical issues and problems facing West Virginia, they continued to attack public education, ignored discrimination, and promoted hate speech and verbal violence against West Virginians.
What did they prioritize? Making it legal for dark money groups to pour even more money into political campaigns, trying to put guns in the hands of college students, and putting taxpayer dollars into schools that can pick and choose.
“Again, I want to thank our Democratic Legislators for being true leaders to West Virginia families and standing up for what’s right. “
