WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore and the West Virginia Democratic Party released the following statement celebrating Pride Month and forward progress to stop hate and discrimination:
“This Pride Month, we reflect and celebrate the great progress made by those who came before us in the fight for progress and equality for the LGBTQ+ community.
“We must not only recognize the bravery of those individuals, but we must stand in solidarity and continue to fight forward to ensure that we bring an end to bigotry and hate and continue carving a path forward toward true equality for all.
“Right now, Congress must pass the Equality Act and end legal discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. We must also band together to stop hate and discrimination here in West Virginia.
“This year, Governor Jim Justice and the Republican Majority supported and signed a dangerous bill into law that discriminates against trans children in West Virginia. This bill denies their participation in school sports.
“We must continue to stand against such hateful acts of discrimination in West Virginia and beyond.
“We commit to never backing down and doing the work to ensure that we are doing our best as allies.”
